Art doesn’t have hang in a quiet gallery somewhere. Art is all around us.

My city, Johannesburg, is an urban gallery and the exhibits change constantly.

The purple collection is on view for a limited time only. Jacaranda trees in their short sweet season of lilac bloom and the blue Agapanthus are all bursting into flower and line the streets of Joburg. We all have a complimentary season ticket to the show!

The townhouse complex adjacent to mine has the most amazing little landscaped garden at its entrance with a rainbow of colourful rosebushes.

The complex next to that one has a mass display of Agapanthus on its pavement – strategically at the fourway stop where motorists queue to exit our suburb in the early morning  rat crawl’. I wait for this show every year.

A taxi-commuter alights from the crowded mini-bus and her outfit is styled, co-ordinated, streetwise and sassy – she looks a picture and she knows it!

At home – and choosing a bowl for some tomatoes becomes a pleasure – hmmm … which bowl will be best? I choose the bowl and fill it with the washed ripe, shiny tomatoes.
