Roses, the language of love
Most of the roses in Lizette’s Meyer’s Rayton garden tell the story of her and husband, Adriaan’s love for each other. Here follows the story, in Lizette’s words and photos, of their mutual entanglement with roses …

Early in December of 1980, I saw my Heart Throb in court, where l was a witness in a case. I thought to myself that I would love to marry a man just like the tall dark, very handsome, friendly and dynamic police detective I had just met. He and my father had an interesting discussion about cannabis and I stood there in awe, just listening.

Eyes for You
Two years later I saw him again at the school where I worked as an Occupational Therapist, when he gave a lecture to school children about the dangers of drugs.
A colleague told me ‘He only had Eyes for You.’

As an Addictive Lure, L’Aimant (the Magnet) pulled me towards him.
I walked up to him and said, ‘Do you Remember Me’?
For me, it was Sweet Surrender.
Bride’s Dream
My Bride’s Dream became a reality of True Love when we got married five months after we met at the school. We realized that what we had was a spontaneous Antico Amore from the day we had first set eyes on each other in the courtroom.

My Best Friend
We celebrated our 20-year anniversary with Porcelain, and our 30-year anniversary with Oyster Pearl.
There are more roses to tell the story of our life, like Tuis and Garden and Home. I used to be his Garden Princess, but now I am his Garden Queen.
Memoir is the reminder of all our rose moments and we sincerely hope to be blessed with a long and prosperous life to be able to have our Golden Celebration in years to come!
